When Krysta from The Modern Crunch requested a review of her medium-long side snapper pocket diaper, little did she know no side-snapper has ever worked well for my son. But little did I know when accepting the review that this side-snapper was like no other I’ve tried. Eat your heart out big name brands, this WAHM-made cloth diaper has a special place in my stash.
Here’s what I love: It’s trim, functional, adorable, and affordable. And these are all great things for a diaper to be. Plus, there’s extra snaps on the wing so they can be snapped out of the way when the diaper is on the tightest settings (see pictures below). This helps prevent wicking and offers a more flush fit against baby. I’m guessing this is what makes the difference in the fit for us, no bulk up front from the wings overlapping. If this isn’t an issue for you, or if for whatever reason you don’t like this extra snap, you don’t need to use it. And voila: No harm, no foul.
Because this pocket diaper did not come with an insert, I use my favorite in-stash ones (AppleCheeks 2 layer bamboo, they are fabulous!) and they fit quiet well. I appreciate it when items I already own and love work well with new additions to the stash.
The one thing I don’t love: The brand and size tags. The tags feel a bit ‘paper-y,’ not soft, and have curled after a few washes. Compared to the quality of the fabrics used in the diaper’s construction and the craft(wo)manship put into it, these tags takes away from the aesthetic appeal of such a cute and well-made item. Krysta tells me that she’s working on fixing the issue.
And speaking of Krysta, after a few months hiatus she’s back up and running starting this Monday, October 1st, 2012. She aims to stock The Modern Crunch biweekly with in-stock items and custom slots. However, life as a midwifery student with two kids, a husband, a beagle, and a cat, can sometimes get in the way of stockings, hence she aims for biweekly. You see, The Modern Crunch isn’t her bread and butter, but rather her hobby and passion, which releases her to be creative and operate things a little differently. I’ve witnessed Krysta make many a mamas’ wishes come true via custom orders — she loves the challenge, so if you’re looking for something in particular (especially if it’s outside the box), I’d recommend contacting her about it and scoring one of those custom slots.
